Best Places to Travel Around Belgrade, Serbia
Belgrade. The capital of the former Yugoslavia is a must visit place for both cultural and historical lovers. Over the centuries the city made itself a popular tourist spot, thanks largely to its beautiful combination of medieval architecture, rich history and colourful nightlife. Here is a brief description of Belgrade, its best-known attractions, and tips for traveling to this interesting city
Map: In case you happen to find yourself in Belgrade at any time during the year (as it hardly ever gets dull), you will definitely want to look up at your map and see what state it’s in. When viewing the map of belgrade, you will notice that it takes place in two parts: the Bosporus and the Drina. The former is the main commercial and political centre of this city, whilst the latter is the drina, or river bed where boats and other water-based activities take place. Here are some of the most famous sights in this part of town:
Restaurants: In the Drina area you will find a wide selection of excellent restaurants serving a variety of different ethnicities, as well as local cuisine. Bosporus is where you will usually serve your drinks, as are most of the other restaurants around this area. However, you can always try out Belgrade’s finest restaurants by simply walking down to the Marin region and then searching for one in the Marin Bar. These restaurants usually serve a variety of delicious meat, fish, and vegetable dishes.
Monument: If you like history more than food in a restaurant, then you definitely have not seen a monument in Belgrade before. This unique building is located on a pedestrian street named Skadarska street. It is a memorial that was made centuries ago to honour the soldiers who fought during the wars against the Muslims. A great place to walk is from Skadarska street towards the monument and enjoy the wonderful views of this impressive building. Some of Belgrade’s best restaurants and pastry shops are situated near this monument, which is also a great place to catch a glimpse of Belgrade in all its glory.
Tower Of St. Peter: Also located around Belgrade is a great place to go and view a historic monument in this part of town – the St. Peter’s tower. Built in the 13th century, the original structure of this tower was destroyed in World War II. Today, a new structure has been built which is taller and more impressive than the original one. The tower is open to the public on certain Sundays and can be reached by taking the popular tramway system.
Botoibor: A short train journey from the belgrade bus station will bring you to BOTOIBOR, a very interesting market town. People come to buy Belgrade souvenirs, and other goods. On Sunday, the market is even more active as people go to church and purchase a number of Belgrade’s traditional dishes. The most important thing about this place is that the journey lasts for two whole days, and so you do not need to get a taxi or another transport to get around.
Boskoj: Another great place that will make your journey lasts longer is Boskoj, a UNESCO World Heritage site that was destroyed in World War II. Today, the town is full of bars, cafes, and tourist attractions. However, the best way to get to Boskoj from the Belgrade bus station is taking the old heavy railway system that was once used to bring passengers and freight from the former town of Razlog, closer to Belgrade. It will take you only two hours.
The journey from Belgrade to Prahova, takes you on a scenic route around belgrade. You can expect to see plenty of nature since you are passing through the gradual hills of Maribor. There is no need to worry though, as the buses that stop at these points will take you to the correct places where the taxis and buses will be waiting for you to board. It is really a good way to travel around, especially for those who do not like using public transportation.
